They sure deserved the chance to do it.knoirohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17472976210155412608noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29147952.post-1842401385386120722018-09-04T22:36:35.295-07:002018-09-04T22:36:35.295-07:00As I recall, I met them in SF just after I broke u... As I recall, I met them in SF just after I broke up with the airplane. I worked with Nina Simone for a few weeks at the Hungry I (north beach) just until her regular drummer got out of jail. By then I was having some ticket problems with the SF constabulary. I slipped the cop with the arrest warrant but they ran me down at my apartment upon Masonic above Ashbury. Actually, the guys paid off my tickets and so I owed them. KC, Jim, Gus, and Buddie Hill were headed to NYC to play at a club called "Arthurs," I went along to be the drummer. We stopped off at Gus's parents' house in South Bend and laid over for a few weeks. Actually, we needed the rehearsal since they had a whole bunch of Folky rock tunes (I was really a jazz musician) My recollection is that we were pretty raggedy then. the voices were always excellent, actually first rate. American Rock was in it's infancy and the Beatles were the rage of the time. The Byrds had a hit or two playing Bob Dylan tunes but not a whole lot was happening in US Rock n' Roll.

When we got to NYC we eventually got a gig at the Cafe Wha. I"m a bit blurry after that. I remember I had trouble in the studio as the band was recording a demo and they replaced me with the old studio drum master himself Herby LaVell. I still played concerts (including the Fordham gig) and a few clubs but It seemed nothing was really happening. We did a Gillete Commercial for the 67' Super Bowl, a couple of radio jingles but that's all I remember and I eventually drifted away and ended up with WINGS (US Version) JIm Mason eventually joined me with Wings, we cut a really great album but our lead singer wigged out and the rest is a comma in the history of Rock n' Roll.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10455376234507496846noreply@blogger.com
